A shocking video surfaced on social media on Thursday morning showing Unnao Jail prisoners brandishing pistols and drugs inside the prison premises. Responding to the viral video, UP BJP MLA Shrikant Sharma claimed that the CM Yogi Adityanath-led government is strict on maintaining the law and order in the state, putting the blame on Opposition (SP-BSP) in the matter.
He further said that Jail Superintendents have been asked to fo their duties and if there are any loopholes then action will be taken against them.
"The Opposition does not have any agenda now. The government is quite strict and active in law and order. Every official has been told that there is no compromise on the same. All Jail Superintendents have been told to fulfil their responsibilities and if there are any loopholes then strict action must be taken against them. In our government, there is not political backing to any prisoner. Earlier governments under SP-BSP gave political support to rule-breakers," said the UP MLA speaking in the matter.
Meanwhile, UP Jail Minister Jai Kumar said that investigation has been ordered against four officials over the viral video of Unnao Jail inmates. Furthermore, two inmates in the video have also been transferred to other jails.
The Uttar Pradesh home department, however, came up with a bizarre clarification saying the pistol which can be seen in the video was apparently "made of clay" and looked real because one of the two inmates is a "good painter", news agency PTI reported. The Additional Director General also said that the video dates back to February, and inmates can be seen in winter clothing.
In a statement about the video, the UP home department said, "During the probe, it was found that Gaurav is a very good painter, and the country-made pistol shown in the video is actually made of clay (mitti)."
