MNM chief Kamal Haasan triggered massive controversy on Sunday, telling the crowd at his rally that free India's first terrorist was a Hindu, in his reference to Mahatma Gandhi's assailant Nathuram Godse. Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi launched a scathing attack at Kamal Haasan over his 'Hindu first terrorist' remark, speaking to Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami during The Debate on Monday.

Expressing shock over remarks made by the MNM chief, Vivek Oberoi said that crores of Hindus like him feel insulted with Kamal Haasan's statement, asking him a series of questions.

"It's difficult to deal with the truth. You say your writing was bad, but your thinking in the political discourse is way worse than your writing. I am shocked, I am appalled and crores of Hindus like me feel really insulted with what Kamal sir has said today. How can you go there and attack my faith? I believe in and respect all faiths but, but I will not take disrespect towards my faith. How can you say something like Hindu terror? Why are you selling this Hindu phobia? I don't understand. What's wrong with your presu-seculars? Why are selling Hindu phobia? It doesn't exist. They are selling this for their obvious political gains. Why would Kamal Haasan otherwise say this in a Muslim dominated majority area? Would he say the same thing in front of a Hindu Sabha? I mean if this is his politics, I am sure he is bound to lose the elections and he should. Because he is attacking and hurting the sentiments of millions of Hindus, like us, who are nothing but a symbol of harmony and peace across thousands of years," Vivek Oberoi said.

Asserting that India has been embracing other religions with harmony over many years, the Bollywood actor added that Indians have been nothing but tolerant in the country. He went on to ask why Hindus are being attacked for political gains.

"In 1500 years for the first time, you have a temple, a Hindu Temple being built in the Middle-East. Thousands of years ago, we have had mosques and churches being built in this country. We have only embraced. This disrespect towards my faith as a Hindu, how do I deal with this? We have been nothing but tolerant of living in harmony. We love our Muslim and Christian brothers and sisters across all minorities. But this constant division for appeasement for this dirty, petty politics, and it's happening all over. Why this attack on Hindus? I don't understand. What have we done?" the actor added.

Demanding an apology from Kamal Haasan, Vivek Oberoi said that he has hurt the sentiments of the Hindus.

The actor-turned-politician was addressing a rally at Aravakurichi on Sunday wherein he had put forth that he was among the 'proud Indians' who desire a nation that espouses equality and where the 'three colours' of the Tricolour remain intact.

"I am not saying this because this is a Muslim-dominated area," Haasan prefaced his remarks, adding, "but I am saying this before a statue of Gandhi. Free India's first terrorist was a Hindu, his name is Nathuram Godse. There it began."
