Kamal Nath, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, called the arrest of his nephew and businessman Ratul Puri by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) 'purely malafide' while speaking to the media.
In his first response over the bank loan fraud case of Rs. 354.51 crores, the senior Congress leader, Kamal Nath asserted that he had no connection with Moser Baer India Ltd and that this was a vendetta against him.
"I have no connection with the business they are doing. I'm neither a share-holder nor a director. To me, it appears to be a purely malafide action, and I have full faith in the Court."
"The way all agencies are being used, politics is leveraged is very sad. I believe the Court will investigate the matter. Where is this country being dragged, sometimes (they go) behind Chidambaram, sometimes behind Ahmed Patel," Nath added.
Officials notified that Puri was placed under arrest under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) late on Monday night. The arrest of Kamal Nath's nephew comes after repeated attempts by the businessman to evade investigation.
The criminal case over bank loan fraud was filed against Moser Baer India Ltd following a complaint was filed by the CBI. They said Puri was placed under arrest under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) late Monday night. He is known to be produced before the Court on Tuesday, according to the officials.
The arrest was made over the allegations of the CBI who accused Puri and a few others of fabricating documents. In consequence of the loan fraud, the CBI suffered heavy losses.
