BJP senior leader Himanta Biswa Sarma in an interaction with the media made massive revelations following the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting. 

He alleged that the presence of Rahul Gandhi's staff in the meeting did not go down well with Rajya Sabha MP Kumari Selja, who raised "huge" objections.

He said, "In the CWC meeting, Rahul Gandhi's staff was also present at the meeting then Kumari Selja raised huge objection opposed it heavily that anyone can't keep their staff in CWC meeting."

Furthermore, he also claimed that former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram put a condition before UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi saying that he would resign from his Rajya Sabha seat in case a ticket was not given to his son, Karti Chidambaram.

He said, "Whatever has happened in CWC, Rahul Gandhi has given tickets so many times to son and daughter of many established leaders. In the CWC, he accused Chidambaram, (saying) why have you given a ticket to Karti Chidambaram." 

"Then it has also come to light that two months prior to the elections, Mr Chidambaram had met Sonia Gandhi and told her that if you don't give ticket to my son, I'll quit my Rajya Sabha seat," he added. 

Amid the turmoil, another meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has been called to discuss the future course of action at Rahul Gandhi's residence, with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jyotiraditya Scindia in presence.

As per inputs, Rahul Gandhi insisted on his decision to step down as Congress party president. At the previous CWC meeting, his resignation offer was rejected as the party instead allegedly unanimously asked him to keep his postion and guide the party, and even bestowed upon him full authority to overhaul the party.

Sources have informed Republic of factions within the Congress not being satisfied with the party's decision to not effect a change at the top after the poll debacle, which saw the Congress effectively being whitewashed in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh - two states where they had only recently formed governments, and Rahul Gandhi also losing his Amethi bastion to Smriti Irani.

As per Congress insiders, AK Antony and Sachin Pilot are among those whose names are being strongly touted, whereas Prithviraj Chavan is considered a dark horse in the race.
