  • MEA slammed Pakistan over Saeed's multiple sham arrests and releases

India responded to US President Donald Trump's absurd tweet, following the arrest of Jama'at-ud-Da'wah (JuD) chief and Mumbai 26/11 terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed by Pakistan Punjab's CTD. Taking credit for Saeed's arrest in his tweet, Trump had claimed that the terrorist was arrested after great pressures by US over two years. Addressing a press briefing on Thursday, MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar initially slammed Pakistan over Saeed's multiple sham arrests and releases and its inadequacy to take stronger action against the US-designated global terrorist.

"This drama of Hafiz Saeed's arrest and release has been more than eight times since 2001. We have been seeing this drill. The question is whether this time, Saeed will be tried and sentenced for his terrorist activities. We all know that he is the mastermind of Mumbai 26/11 terror attacks," MEA Spokesperson said.

Later, responding to Trump's tweet, Raveesh Kumar reiterated India and US's joint stand on counter-terrorism and the terrorists and terror activities perpetrating in Pakistan.

"See the tweet in the context of the cooperation of India and the US have enjoyed on counter-terrorism. In the joint statement by both India and the US on counter-terrorism, India has maintained its stand in the matter," he added.

Reading from the joint statement, Raveesh Kumar re-emphasised on India's commitment to fighting terror activities like Al-Qaeda and Jaish-e-Mohammad among others. This tweet has to be seen in the context of global cooperation and coming together in the fight against terrorism. India and the US have been working very closely in the matter.

On Wednesday, the misinformed President of the United States claimed that 'great pressure' was exerted for his "search" for the past two years after which Hafiz Saeed was arrested.

In a so-called crackdown against terrorism, Pakistan arrested the Lashkar-e-Taiba co-founder Hafiz Saeed, yet again on Wednesday. Arrested and released multiple times, Saeed has been taking shelter on the Pakistan soil and roaming around freely, allegedly under the safety blanket of the Pakistan military.

Meanwhile, addressing the briefing on India's victory at the ICJ in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case, the MEA Spokesperson rubbished Pakistan's claims on its victory in the case and said that if Pakistan did not have the patience to read the 42-page verdict, they should read the 7 page ICJ press release about the verdict. He added that Pakistan may be under some compulsion to lie to their people.

"Frankly, it seems like they are reading from a different verdict. the main verdict is in the 42 pages. If they do not have the patience to read the 42-page verdict, I think they should read the 7-page press release where each and every point has been ruled in favour of India. There is no confusion in this. They may have their own compulsions, as to why they have to lie to their own people," he said.
