A probe undertaken by the NIA, in a letter dated back to December 4, 2018, has allegedly revealed that the vehicle of a PDP leader had been used to carry out the attack.

Former Jammu and Kashmir MLA from PDP, Aijaz Ahmad Mir was named in the NIA letter for the Amarnath pilgrim attack carried out in July 2017, that left seven dead and around 20 injured.

Republic spoke to the PDP leader pertaining to the NIA probe of his vehicle being used for the terrorist attack and cited that Mir holds a soft corner for separatists.

"According to my knowledge, the case is already closed. If they still feel, why did they not say it back then that the vehicle was used? What is soft towards separatist issues? It means if I have said something under the Constitution. If they think my vehicle was involved, why didn't the police inform me till now? Let the police do their job, I'm ready for every investigation. If my driver is involved in something, it's not my fault because the security officials have provided me with the driver. I would want an in-depth investigation of the matter."

NIA has also sought the criminal record and integrity record of Mir. Days after the attack, the security forces arrested Touseef Ahmad Wani, the driver of the PDP leader who was provided to him by the Jammu and Kashmir police. During this arrest, the police had alleged that the driver has links with terrorists.

Mir was MLA from Wachi constituency of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. He is one of those leaders who had called Kashmiri militants killed by Indian forces as "martyrs", adding that their deaths must not be celebrated.

At least seven Amarnath Yatris were killed and 19 others injured in a terrorist attack on a Yatra bus carrying 17 pilgrims in three attacks in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Policemen have been reportedly injured in the attack. As per reports, the attack took place at 8:20 p.m. on July 11, 2017.
