Addressing BJP workers at his Lok Sabha constituency -Varanasi on Saturday, PM Narendra Modi, has explained the meaning of his dream of achieving a '5 trillion dollar' economy, at the DDU Hasthakal Sankul venue in the city. He explained its conversion into rupees and in terms of today's Indian economy.
"There will be new projects of progress, service of India and the dreams of New India. These dreams are connected to a great extent to 5 Trillion Dollar economy. 5 trillion means 5 lakh crore dollar. In terms of rupees, it is 65-70 times more and in other terms, one can say it is almost twice the current economy's figures," he said.
Talking about the relevance of his economic dream to the common man, he said that this dream will inspire citizens to think in a different way which is the pathway to solve our problems.
"You must be thinking why am I talking in a workers' meeting about economics. I myself am not an economist. But the truth is that the dream I talk about will help you to think in a new way. By thinking in a new direction we will progress and this is the way out of our problems," he added.
The Prime Minister is in the ancient city to flag off BJP's membership drive. Earlier in the morning, he had unveiled the statue of former Prime Minister and freedom and fighter Lal Bahadur Shastri. He had also participated in the launch of plantation drive in the state which was initiated under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath.
The membership drive included a video on how to become a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Earlier on Friday, after the presentation of the Union Budget by India's first full-time Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, PM Modi had hailed the Centre's inclusive budget. He spoke on how in the next five years, the government will empower the poor-farmer-Dalit-suffering-deprived and transform them into a powerhouse.
"The government took all-round measures to empower the poor-farmer-Dalit-suffering-deprived. Now, in the next five years, this empowerment will make them a powerhouse for the country's development. This powerhouse will provide the energy to fulfill the dream of $5 trillion economy of the country," he said.
