  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed the mirror to the Congress-led UPA government giving an extensive comparison of the developmental projects successfully done under the 55 years of UPA government and 55 months of the NDA government

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his reply to the debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in Lok Sabha on Thursday showed the mirror to the Congress-led UPA government giving an extensive comparison of the developmental projects successfully done under the '55 years of UPA government' and '55 months of the NDA government".

"Your (Congress-led UPA) 55 years and my 55 months - in their 55 years, sanitation coverage was around 40% till 2014. But today in our 55 months, it is nearly 98%. More than 10 crore toilets have been built in these 4.5 years. And who says that this government is for the 'rich', then I am happy that I have made toilets for my rich people in the country - they are my rich and they are my power. Gas connections in their 55 years were 12 crores, but in our 55 months, it is 13 crore. We have worked at a greater speed in our five years. In our country, in 55 years, 50% of people had bank accounts. Now, in 55 months, bank accounts have been opened for 100% people. The work that was supposed to be done in their past twenty years, I had to finish all the work in my tenure," PM Modi said taking a dig at the Congress party in his reply.

"Look at your 2004, 2009 and 2014 manifestos... You've said in each of them that within 3 years you'll provide electricity to all houses. I'm shocked, you've said 'Gareebi Hatao', promises 3 times, and yet I'm having to work so hard to accomplish it," he added.

Furthermore, PM Modi also attacked the Congress party, for questioning and doubting the integral institutions of the country like the Election Commission, Army and Supreme Court during his address in the Lok Sabha. PM Modi accused the grand old party of trying to destroy the image and reputation of a premier institution like the army.

"Stories were being manufactured. For political gains, they tried to malign the army. Even if there was a weak PM, weak govt, coalition govt, single-party govt, the army has never ever attempted a coup. This was a really wrong thing to do. You (Congress) tried to put a blot on the image of the Army chief by saying that he was planning a coup," said the Prime Minister.
