PM Narendra Modi brought up the Chowkidaar moniker back while criticising the Mahagathbandhan.

While speaking in Agra in Uttar Pradesh during his mega rally in the state, he said that politicians who can't agree with each other have united to against him as they are scared of the 'Chowkidaar'. He added that the politicians are not concerned about the country.

"Jo ek dusre ka mooh dekhne ko taiyar nahi the .. Chowkidaar ko door se hi dekhar aise ghabra jaate hai .. unko lagta hai hamara jo hoga so dekh lenge.. iss Chowkidaar ko nikalo.. jab tak ye Chowkidaar hai tab tak apna kaam kar ke jaayega. (Those didn't even see face to face with each other, are getting scared just by looking at the Chowkidaar. They want to first get rid of the Chowkidaar even if it hurts them politically in their attempt, worry about whatever happens to us will happen, but Chowkidaar should be removed first. Till I am here as a Chowkidaar, I will do my work accordingly ), " he said.

"Do you think the Chowkidaar must do his work ? Should he do his work? Should the country's work be done or not? I am working to raise every Indian as a Chowkidaar," he added.

The BJP has raised the Chowkidaar pitch after the extradition of AgustaMiddleman Christian Michel from Dubai. Michel has been interrogated by the CBI and is being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate.

The leaders in the Opposition are banding together to form a coalition which is being called the Mahagathbandhan against the NDA.

The Mahagathbandhan itself was split after DMK's Stalin announced Rahul Gandhi for Prime Minister. Since then there have been two different attempts on forming a coalition against the NDA. One led by KCR which is going for a non-BJP and non-Congress coalition and the other currently led by Chandrababu Naidu who is trying to form an alliance of Opposition parties with Congress as a key player in it.
