Hours after batting for Congress President Rahul Gandhi and saying that he will become the next Prime Minister of India, Former Internal Minister of Pakistan Rehman Malik reiterated his stance, saying, “I am again repeating, good chances for Rahul Gandhi to become the Prime Minister,” on a faceoff with BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra on the Debate with Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.
“Will you not agree with me he is a leader and India national. As a observer, if Rahul Gandhi follows ‘jet gate’ (Rafale row), which is a jet scandal, and can get it concluded, I am again repeating, good chances for Rahul Gandhi to become the Prime Minister. I am saying again, if he works hard in his politics, there is a chance he can become the Prime Minister,” said Rehman Malik.
Issuing a diplomatic statement, Malik, however also said that his tweet was misinterpreted and claimed that Pakistan is not with Congress. He also said that his country wants peace with India.
“We Pakistanis really love our brothers and sisters in India, we have no intentions of fighting with India. As an Interior Minister of Pakistan, I have done my best to go closer. I am the one who brought lot of relaxations in our immigration policy. We want to move forward for peace and we have no animosity with Mr Modi. This is wrong that we are with Congress to remove PM Modi, but no. This impression came from a tweet which was misinterpreted,” said the Former Internal Minister of Pakistan.
Earlier on Monday, Malik posted a series of tweets, expressing his support for Rahul Gandhi to dethrone PM Narendra Modi. In one of his tweets, he even ahead and said that if Rahul Gandhi keeps pursuing the Rafale controversy, he will become the Prime Minister of India.
However, Senator Rehman Malik is not the only Pakistan Minister who is campaigning for Rahul Gandhi, Pakistan's Information and Broadcast Minister Fawad Hussain too took to Twitter and referred Rahul Gandhi's tweets to mount a scathing attack on BJP. He shared screenshots of Rahul's tweets on his twitter handle and captioned it as: "These tweets explain BJP led Tirade against Pakistan, Apni Jang Khud Lado #RafaelDeal"
In another tweet, Fawad Hussain claimed that “Indian government is trying to use hate mongering against Pak basically to bail Pm Modi from call for resignation post French jets Rafael deal”.
This comes even as blunting the opposition's claim on Rafale, Former French President Francois Hollande issued a clear denial and said he was 'unaware' on India putting pressure for taking Reliance on board for the deal.
Even Dassault Aviation, in a press release, stated that to choose Reliance Group as a partner was its own choice. Furthermore, the French government has also dismissed former President Francois Hollande’s claim and mentioned it was a private to private negotiation.
