Reacting to this SDPI leader Taslim Rehmani said, "...there are already rules and legislation against anti-national activities in the country. India is a huge country and by coming out with such special legislation... is highly ridiculous. No country in the world can come up with such legislation. It is understood that an average citizen of the country will abide by its existing laws.

"(To bring up such an ordinance) is insulting the sentiments of the country. You are saying that there are people who are anti-national in the country. You are creating that kind of a narrative that people are anti-national in the country," he said.

The Uttar Pradesh Private University Ordinance, 2019 says that private universities will have to give an undertaking while getting approvals that it will “Not be involved in any anti-national activity, allow such activity within its premises or let its name be used for any such activity. Any such act would be construed as a violation of the rules of the establishment and the government can take action."
