The Shiv Sena and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has strongly reacted to the Congress' incessant attack on Hindutva on Thursday.
After Shashi Tharoor tweeted attacking Hindu religion earlier on January 31 saying, "Hindi, Hindu, Hindutva” ideology is dividing our country," the Shiv Sena's spokesperson Arvind Sawant and VHP's working president Alok Kumar hit out at the MP.
Arvind Sawant said that the Congress wants to divide the country and that people like Shashi Tharoor were a blot on the society.
"When someone against whom there are so many allegations he speaks like a philosopher you must see on which ground he is standing. His ground is totally that of a mentally corupt person, he is charcteristically a corrupt person," he said.
"He opines like a philosopher but he does not know Hindutva is magnaimous which is that it is not only Hindu religion, but it is related to nationalism, secularism. And it is so magnimous it incorporates everybody in Hindutva. They want to divide the country for politics. So statement by him must be condemned by everyone, be it any political party," Sawant said. "People like him are a blot on society," he added.
VHP's Alok Kumar said he did not want to encourage Tharoor any further by commenting on the matter. He also compared him with senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for making such statements on Hindutva.
"Tharoor has taken up the responsibility of what Digvijaya Singh used to do. I dont wnt to encourage him by commenting on this," he said.
Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor on Thursday took to Twitter, while replying to a tweet, and wrote that the "Hindi, Hindu, Hindutva ideology is dividing our country". He also wrote to seek 'unity and not uniformity' after attacking the Hindu sentiments in his tweet.
His tweet comes a day another tweet where he insulted the sentiments of the people and the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj.
