President Ram Nath Kovind had addressed the joint session of the Parliament on January 31. While doing so, he hailed the Modi government for its accomplishments during the period of their tenure, to which Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the President's address echoes the words of PM Modi, further accusing his government of destroying Independent Institutions.
Responding to which, during his address, PM Modi lashed out at the former Union Minister, saying that 'Congress is out of the habit of hearing the truth'
He said, "Kharge ji was saying that what Modi ji says in public that's what the President says in the Parliament. That has been proven that we are telling the truth. I am thankful that you (Kharge) registered. We say the truth in public, in the Parliament and everywhere. It is your problem that you don't have the habit to hear the truth. You have lied so much that you are out of the habit to hear the truth."
"You say that Modi destroyed the Independent Institutions? 'ulta chor Chowkidaar ko daante'," he added.
PM Modi during his address even recalled the EVM press conference held in London in the presence of senior leader Kapil Sibal, that claimed that along with Lok Sabha elections 2014, elections in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat Assembly elections were rigged.
He said, "You are in the opposition, so you have to criticise, in fact, you should criticise, it is important for the sake of democracy. But in doing that, you bad mouth the country. You did a fake press conference in London. Is this helping the country?"
At the beginning of the Budget session, President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the joint session in the Parliament on Thursday, wherein he hailed the efforts of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government for its achievements in the development of a 'new India'. However, senior Congress leader Mallikararjun Kharge, while addressing the reporters, targeted President Kovind over his address in the Parliament and questioned about his comments on the accomplishments of Modi government.
"I felt odd when he (President Kovind) gave two-three examples comparing the achievements of the 50 years of Congress governance (with present government). What is your direction- how are you planning to move ahead - leaving all these discussions, you are saying that we provided electricity to 18,000 villages then who gave electricity to 6 lakh others. This country has 6 lakh villages (small or big), but he talked about 18,000 villages and said there is electricity in every house," Kharge said.
