Will Army carry out another surgical strike on Pakistan? Army Chief General Bipin Rawat answers

“Let it remain a surprise,” said Army Chief General Bipin Rawat to news agency ANI when he was asked whether Army will carry out another surgical strike. “Surgical strike is a weapon of surprise. Let it remain a surprise,”said General Rawat.

The Army Chief also slammed Pakistan for carrying out barbaric acts, while reacting on the shocking incident of Pakistani troops slitting throat a BSF soldier.

“They have been carrying out barbaric acts and Pakistan Army is used to doing this. It is not the first time that they have done it,” said the Army Chief.

Speaking over India calling off UNGA meeting with Pakistan, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said, "I think the government has taken the right decision that terrorism & peace talks cannot be held together."

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat’s statement on surgical strike comes following a massive national outrage over Pakistani troops slitting the throat of a BSF jawan after fatally shooting him along the international border (IB) near Jammu.

The brutal and "unprecedented" incident that took place in the Ramgarh sector had prompted the security forces to issue a "high alert" across the IB and Line of Control (LoC) even as the Border Security Force (BSF) has lodged a strong complaint with its counterparts -- the Pakistan Rangers.

The unprecedented incident even forced the Indian government to rethink and later cancel meeting with Pakistan on the sidelines of UNGA, which had been sought by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. The MEA while calling off the meeting had said the killing of Indian soldiers led to cancellation of this meeting, adding, "real face of Imran Khan is out in the beginning of his tenure".

Meanwhile, recently a massive political slugfest has erupted after the University Grants Commission (UGC) directed varsities and higher educational institutions across the country to observe September 29 as "Surgical strike day". Even as the opposition parties are questioning the government move, the Union HRD Minister has said said that the directive to observe Surgical Strike day is not a diktat, but only an advisory. Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has also insisted that celebrating the valour of armed forces shouldn’t be seen from the prism of politics.
