On day one of the two-day Republic Summit 2018, Sadhguru, Founder of Isha Foundation and a renowned motivational speaker, elaborately elucidated over the topic of ‘culture and values, that power a billion’. Weaving his thoughts on the cultural traditions and spiritual beliefs, he sermonised to enrich our deep values to ensure we can surge without fears and with true liberation.
During his address, the mystic and visionary Sadghruru, apprised people to bounce beyond the pre-existing boundaries and termed “nationalism” a western ideology.
The man who quoted, "I don't want India to be an economic superpower, I want India to be a happy country," after his panel discussion, conversed with Republic TV about what surging India means to him.
He said, "Isn't commerce just a stepping stone for human well-being? In the name of commerce if you forget human well-being then we'll miss the whole point. Economic development as only a means for human well-being, I think that is something that should not be forgotten by any nation. Many western nations have forgotten that we should not forget that, it's important."
During his session on the topic ‘culture and values, that power a billion’, The motivational speaker even elaborated his thoughts on "nationalism" as a concept and its differing perspective in India and the West.
He said, “Human beings have to evolve beyond the need to set boundaries. Nationalism as an idea is a western idea, for us it is a culture of truth and liberation.”
Shedding light on his ideology and advice for India to rise ahead, he expressed his optimism for the country's potential.
He said, "For India to surge ahead, say we are sitting on an economic threshold where if we do a few things right in the next 5-10 years, we can move 600-800 million people from one level of living to another level of living, which has never happened in the history of humanity in a democratic way. It has happened forcefully in another nation in the last century, but in a democratic process, the movement of such a large population has never happened. We are sitting on such a possibility in this country right now, so it's very important that we stay the course and make the necessary hard decisions to be made and willing to go through certain pain for a certain transformation and if we do this we will have this historic moment."
He even pointed out the significance of creating 'great human beings' by saying, "We need to understand that without creating great human beings there is no great nation. Our focus should be on creating great human beings for this we need the right kind of education and an inspirational atmosphere. And above all, inner strength in every individual. If you and me are great people, India is a great nation," he added.
