Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping issued statements following the delegation-level talks on Saturday. Issuing the statement, PM Modi spoke in Tamil and extended congratulatory wishes to the People's Republic of China on the occasion of its 70th foundation anniversary. He further spoke about how Tamil Nadu and China have historically shared trade relations and cultural ties. PM Modi further asserted that India and China have emerged to be economic powers in the past 2,000 years.
"The state of Tamil Nadu and the historic city of Chennai have witnessed deep cultural and trade relations between India and China. For the most part of the last 2000 years, India and China have been economic powers," PM Modi said in the statement.
Speaking about the last year informal summit in Wuhan, PM Modi said that 'it led to fresh stability between India and China. The first informal summit also helped in improved strategic communication between the two countries'. He also stated that the 'Wuhan Spirit' instilled a new momentum and trust in the bilateral relations between India and China, adding that the 'Chennai Connect' is the start of a new era in the relations between the two countries.
"The first informal summit between India and China last year in Wuhan led to fresh stability in our relations and gave a fresh momentum. Strategic communication between our two countries has also increased. Wuhan spirit has given us a new momentum, now, the Chennai connect will trigger a new wave of cooperation," PM Modi added.

On the second day of the Modi-Xi informal summit, PM Modi personally welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Taj Fisherman's Cove hotel in Kovalam, Tamil Nadu. Arriving at the hotel, PM Modi and the Chinese President shared an eco-friendly ride to 'Machan' where they carried out a one-on-one meeting. The two leaders held one-on-one informal talks by beachside facing the magnificent Bay of Bengal.
