'Yes, few of the Special Police Officers (SPOs) of J&K police have resigned', stated BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary of the state.

While admitting that few SPO’s have resigned after getting constant threats from the militant outfits, CS said, “ minuscule resigned from the job, when the strength of the SPOs in the police department is more than 30,000”.

As the militant outfits like HM and LeT are sending constant threats to the SPOs asking them to leave their job or face action.

In order to counter such threats coming from militant outfits, “SPO’s have been directed to take security measures by the department concerned,” CS said

Speaking to media, BVR Subrahmanyam, further revealed that they are reviewing the honorarium for Special police Officers of J&K soon.

As per the sources, “Now it will be around Rs. 16000 when at present SPOs are getting Rs 6000 per month,”.

While giving details, CS contradicts the statement made MHA recently about the SPO’s resignation.

AS per MHA, none of the SPO’s have resigned the Home Ministry last week said no policeman has resigned in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the killing of three police personnel by terror group Hizbul Mujahideen.

Reports have appeared in a section of media that some special police officers (SPOs) in Jammu and Kashmir have resigned, but the state police force has confirmed that these reports are “untrue and motivated”, the ministry said in a statement last week.

“These reports are based on false propaganda by mischievous elements,” it said.

Meanwhile, as the J&K state government is gearing up for the upcoming municipal and panchayat polls, CS said that;

“More than 700 forms have been issued and the final list of candidates for the first phase (that will begin on 8th oct) will be known by this evening as today is the last day for submission of the forms,”.

He further said, “79 municipalities and corporations with over 1200 wards will go for polls in 4 phase manner and results for which will be held on 20th Oct.

“Elections are necessary otherwise the state will lose over 4300 crores of central funds without duly elected municipalities and panchayats’ BVR Subrahmanyam, said.

As far as the security arrangements for the upcoming polls are concerned, CS said

“ We will provide adequate security and accommodation to all the candidates whosoever will approach to us,” while adding he said “ Government will also facilitate campaigning of the candidates”.
