After the UP and Maharashtra ATS arrested a suspected ISI agent named Nishant Aggarwal for leaking BrahMos missile secrets to Pakistan, Uttar Pradesh police held a police briefing in which they shared the details about the matter.
“The person who is nabbed is named to be Nishant Aggarwal. We investigated him and collected questionable pieces of evidence against him. He was an engineer in a defence project. We later, found shreds of evidence of him having an exchange of message with Pakistan. We have confiscated all the computers and laptops in the matters. We will take the investigation further after his arrest and will take stringent actions against the accused. Maharashtra ATS has played an important role in the case”, said UP police.
Suggesting that it is a sensitive issue, UP police exclaimed that they finding more answers after a thorough investigation.
“He was contacted by Pakistan through a Facebook account and was offered a job. What job, we cannot say right now. It is hard to say which agency he was linked with. We found an IP address from Pakistan after investigation right now. In the same manner, we found two other people from Kanpur in the case, but we have not been able to find any solid evidence against them. We are still digging deep to find the links,” police said during the briefing.
“We are investigating how he was paid or whether or not he was being paid for his work. It is still under inspection about how and which all confidential documents, he transferred to ISI. You(media) can term it as a honey trap if you want,” the police spokesperson further added.
Earlier on Monday, sources had told Republic TV, Aggarwal was working with BrahMos for the last 4 years or so and was a topper of his college. Also, after the arrest of the ISI agent Nishant Aggarwal, two more scientists, who work for the DMSRDE lab in Kanpur have also been detained by the Uttar Pradesh ATS.
The BrahMos, the fastest cruise missile in the world, is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft, or land. It is a joint venture between the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya and India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) who together have formed BrahMos Aerospace.
