On the occasion of the 3rd billionth meal of the Akshaya Patra foundation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the holy land of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, where he served food to school kids and held interaction with them.
Flanked by state CM Yogi Adityanath and a number of other dignitaries, PM Modi unveiled a ceremonial plaque to mark the serving of "3rd billionth meal" by Akshaya Patra Foundation at Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir campus.
Following that, he personally served food to some of the school kids and even spoke with them for a brief period. He took to Instagram and posted a video of the same with a caption which read, "Had a good conversation with the children. They didn’t mind the late lunch :) #AkshayPatra"
The Prime Minister also posted a video on Twitter, and expressed his honor of serving food to the kids. "Had the honour of serving food to children in Vrindavan today," his post read.
Akshaya Patra is an initiative which begun almost two decades ago. It is an implementing partner of the Mid-day meal scheme. Over 1.76 million kids, across 14,702 schools in 12 states have been benefited by this scheme.
In 2016, then President, Pranab Mukherjee, had graced the event commemorating 2nd billionth meal under Akshaya Patra. The Foundation works closely with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and State Governments to serve quality, hygienic, and nutritious food to millions of children.
