Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, March 27 announced that India successfully test-fired an anti-satellite missile by shooting down a live satellite. The test makes India the fourth country in the world after the US, Russia and China to acquire the strategic capability to shoot down enemy satellites.

Singer Lata Mangeshkar congratulated the scientists and tweeted: "नमस्कार. 'भारत के 'मिशन शक्ति' कामयाबी पर मैं हमारे वैज्ञानिकों का और माननीय प्रधानमंत्री @narendramodi जी का अभिनंदन करती हूँ. वन्दे मातरम्."

To which Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied: "आदरणीय लता दीदी, हमारे वैज्ञानिक पूरे विश्व में हमारी शान हैं। 

आपका यह प्रोत्साहन हमारे वैज्ञानिकों के मनोबल को और बढ़ाएगा। मुझे विश्वास है कि वे हमारे राष्ट्र को नई-नई ऊंचाइयों पर लेकर जाएंगे। #MissionShakti"

Prime Minister Modi conducted a video conference to congratulated the entire team of scientists who are behind the success of 'Mission Shakti'. Read his full message below:

"Apka parishram rang laya. Jo kisi ka bura nahi sochta hai vo agar shaktiheen ho jayega toh bura sochne walo ke takat burayion ko janam deti rahegi. Aur issiliye bhi ke jo kisi ka bura nahi sochta hai uska sabse zyada balwaan hona bohot aavashyak hota hai. Aur sabse bade gaurav ke baat hogi ke jo sapna hum dekh rahe hai, Har shetra mai Make In India, aap logon ne duniya ko ye sandesh de diya hai ke hum bhi kuch kam nahi hai".

(Your hard work paid off. The one who never thinks ill of others, if they will turn powerless then it would give rise to evil powers. In fact, the one who never thinks ill of others should be more powerful. And the most important thing is that the dream we saw, Made in India, you have given a powerful message to the World that we are not less than anyone.)

On 27th March 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India tested its ASAT missile (Mission Shakti) destroying a pre-determined target of a defunct satellite.

In a much-anticipated address, PM Modi said that `Mission Shakti’ was a difficult target to achieve but was completed within three minutes of the missile launch. 

“Today is 27th March. A while ago, India achieved a historic feat. India today registered itself as a space power. Till now, 3 countries of the world- America, Russia, & China had this achievement. India is the 4th country to have achieved this feat,” he said.
