In the wake of a 'Bharat Bandh', which has been called by fringe groups on September 6 against the amendment of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, section 144 has been imposed in many parts of Madhya Pradesh, with schools and colleges in Gwalior shut down, and petrol pumps ordered to remain shut from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Around 35 organizations are protesting against the act which was passed by the government in Lok Sabha earlier this year in August. It came on the wake of protests in April by lower caste groups, who were demanding the amendment to be go through.
