Centre issues advisory to West Bengal government to maintain law and order amid reports of clashes

UPDATE at 9:08 PM:

Trinamool has responded to the Centre's advisory in a statement: "The so-called advisory from MHA to the West Bengal government on the law enforcement machinery in the State is nothing but a political conspiracy. We will  respond appropriately." 

Condemning the post-poll violence rampant in West Bengal, the Central Government, on Sunday, has expressed deep concern over it issuing an advisory to the state government after latest reports indicate that 4 people were killed on Saturday in clashes in Bhangipara, Hatgacha in North 24 Parganas district, as per ANI sources.

ANI sources also report the statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the West Bengal government which read:

'It's strongly advised to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to maintain law&order, peace and public tranquility. It's also requested to take strict action against officials found delinquent in discharge of their duty.'

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sought a report on the ongoing incidents of violence between Trinamool and BJP workers at North 24 Parganas district in the state of West Bengal from the Mamata Banerjee government. As per reports, 5 BJP and 1 TMC worker have lost their lives during the violence.

"Union Home Minister has asked for a report from the state government and I am sure Centre will take this up seriously. There is a lot of anger among the people over the incident," said Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP National General Secretary.

Four workers of the BJP were shot dead by members of the TMC in Basirhat's Sandeshkhali, BJP leader Mukul Roy has alleged. The deaths took place on Saturday during a clash between workers of the two parties in the city of North 24 Parganas. The removal of party flags had triggered the fight.

"TMC goons attacked BJP workers and 4 of our workers were shot dead in Sandeshkhali, Basirhat. Their leader and Chief Minister is indulging in a reign of terror, we have sent a message to Home Minister Amit Shah ji, Kailash Vijayvargiya ji, and our state leaders," said Roy.

While a team of BJP MPs was scheduled to take stock of the ground situation, party workers have taken out a protest rally from its headquarters in Kolkata, West Bengal towards the Central Avenue following the murder of six of its workers and three clashes in the state. The police, however, are not allowing them to walk around the Central Avenue. 

Bengal has witnessed violence since the campaigning phase of elections. During the elections, clashes took place on the occasion of Amit Shah's roadshow leading to vandalism of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's statue at Vidyasagar College in Kolkata.
