CJI Gogoi's security cover upgraded to Z+ ahead of Ayodhya verdict

Ahead of the verdict in the Ayodhya case on Saturday, November 9, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi's security has been upgraded to Z-plus. The Z-plus security cover is one of the highest in the country and is provided by one of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), preferably the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The Supreme Court is all set to deliver its much-awaited verdict in the Ayodhya title suit case on Saturday at 10.30 am.

Gogoi is heading the five-member Constitution bench that concluded hearing the case on October 16. The other members of the bench are Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and SA Nazeer. According to reports, their security cover has been upgraded as well.

CJI meets Uttar Pradesh DGP and Chief Secretary

Earlier today the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi called upon the top officials from Uttar Pradesh before the Supreme Court to review the preparedness of the State ahead of the verdict. In a meeting that started around noon and lasted a little over an hour, the Chief Secretary and the DGP of Uttar Pradesh briefed the Chief Justice on the steps taken by the UP government and the UP police to ensure law and order is maintained in the State before and after the Supreme Court decision comes.

Security heightened 

Ahead of the verdict, Section 144 of The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) against unlawful assembly imposed across the entire state of Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Government ahead of the verdict has declared that all schools, colleges, and training centres will be shut from November 9 to November 11. 

The security in Ayodhya has been beefed up. So far, 18,000 state police personnel, 3,000 state Rapid Action Force staff, and 4,000 Central troops have been deployed in Ayodhya to maintain law and order. Sources suggest that the forces have been directed by the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure that nobody is allowed to spread any communal message, including political and religious leaders within the State.
