Congress breaks silence on plot to assassinate PM Modi, invokes slain leaders but doesn't mention the sinister letter

The Congress party has offered its first reaction to the plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi that is detailed in a letter that was recovered from one of the persons arrested in connection with the Bhima -Koregaon caste clashes.

Taking to Twitter, Haryana MLA and Congress media in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala has issued a post on the matter as a part of a larger political attack on the government and the BJP over the Bhima-Koregaon probe.

Surjewala, a close aide of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, has said:

"Terrorism, naxalism & extremism are unacceptable. No one knows it better then the Congress, which sacrificed Mahatama Gandhi, Indiraji & Rajivji besides S.Beant Singh,Shuklaji & Nand Kumar Patel among others.

A fair investigation, bereft of politics, is the need of the hour."

In his response, while Surjewala has named the Father of the Nation and two former Prime Ministers among other leaders, he hasn't made a mention of the letter or PM Modi.

The letter in which the plot to assassinate the Prime Minister was detailed was recovered by the Pune Police as part of their investigation into the caste-clashes that had broken out in Pune and Mumbai at the start of the year.

The letter proposed "concrete steps to end Modi-raj" and proposed a "Rajiv Gandhi type incident" and "targeting his road shows". 

The final paragraph of the letter reads: ''Defeating Hindu Fascism has been our core agenda and a major concern for the party. Several leaders from the secret cells, as well as open organisations, have raised this issue very strongly. We are working to consolidate ties with the like-minded organization, pol. parties, representatives of minorities across the country. Modi led Hindu Fascist regime is bulldozing its way into the lives of indigenous Adivasis. In spite of big defeats like Bihar and West Bengal,  Modi has successfully established BJP govt in more than 15 states. If this place continues then it would mean immense trouble for the party on all fronts. Greater suppression of dissent and more brutal form of Mission 2016 (OHG).Com.Kisan and few other senior comrades have proposed concrete steps to end Modi- raj. We are thinking along the lines of another Rajiv Gandhi type incident. It sounds suicidal and there is a good chance that we might fail but we feel that the party PB/CC must deliberate over our proposal. Targetting his road-shows could be an effective strategy. We collectively believe that survival of the party is supreme to all sacrifices. Rest in the next letter.''
