The links between the real estate business and D-company have never been so evident. While it was widely believed that their operations have been largely curtailed in India and their sources of income decimated by the agencies' crackdown, Republic TV's investigation reveals those names who have had business transactions with the Dawood and company.

In uncovering the D-link with the real estate giants, Republic TV came across many names and multiple businesses. The plethora of documents and the web of companies had made it a strenuous task to narrow down those names who had direct meetings or links with the people working for India's most wanted terrorist hiding in Pakistan: Dawood Ibrahim. One such name that emerged as someone having met Dawood's people is Jayant B Soni.

Who is Jayant B Soni?

Jayant B Soni is a Mumbai based businessman who has accepted that he had meetings with Iqbal Mirchi in London. In Republic TV' sting operation he could be seen saying that his meeting with Dawood's close confidante was in relation to a business deal. Let us understand this properly. Jayant Soni is the director of a company called Joy Home Creation Private Limited. In its remand copy against Haroun Aleem Yusuf and Ranjeet Singh Bindra - accused of terror financing and presently in custody - the enforcement directorate claims that Jayant B Soni entered into an agreement with a company controlled by Iqbal Mirchi.

What was the company how did Jayant Soni get involved?

During its investigation against Iqbal Mirchi, the Enforcement Directorate found that Mirchi was operating through his close aide called Humayun Merchant and Haroun Yousuf. Haroun Yusuf was the Chairman of Sir Mohd. Yusuf Trust which had transferred three properties to Iqbal Mirchi. These properties were then attached under SAFEMA which was quashed in 2005 by the CMM court.

Following the quashing of the confiscated properties, Humayun Merchant approached Joy Home Creation Limited- Jayant Soni' company. Humayun lined up a meeting between Jayant and Mirchi met in London which has been established through Republic's sting operation against Mr. Soni. According to the enforcement directorate "Joy Homes was to pay 11 crores to Humayun and 4 crores to the trust" but only 25 lakhs. When Jayant Soni did not pay the 11 crores as promised: "Iqbal threatened Mr. Jayant Soni to exit the property". It is after this episode between Jayant Soni and Iqbal Mirchi, Sunblink comes into picture which we have been explained in another article.

Sources close to the agency tell Republic TV that the agency is assessing his statement and might call him again for further questioning as new details have emerged.
