After a thorough search for the Vijay Chowk speedster, Delhi police on Sunday, have booked BJP leader and Haryana cabinet minister Captain Abhimanyu Singh's nephew - Sarvesh for rash driving on the early hours of Saturday near the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Police have also said that Sarvesh was driving a white Audi car worth 2.5 Crore on Saturday, creating a ruckus in the high-security area.
Earlier on Saturday, in a shocking violation of traffic safety, a white (Audi) car was spotted zooming opposite the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi during the early hours of Saturday.
Visuals captured from the area CCTV show the driver driving recklessly in circles speeding around the street near Vijay Chowk at around 4 AM. The driver is seen speeding three circles, each bigger before the previous before speeding away from the area.
Road rage incidents have been prevalent throughout the nation, especially in the National Capital Region (NCR). A few months ago, in Ghaziabad, a driver was seen speeding off with a man hanging on to dear life on the bonnet of his car for almost two kilometres. Stating that the man who drove him around has been arrested, the police said the incident was the result of a road rage case when the victim had tried to stop the accused’s car after it hit his vehicle.
Earlier in February, in a major incident in the national capital, a 51-year-old foreign national was killed and three persons were critically injured after a speeding Bentley car hit an auto-rickshaw. The incident took place around 1.32 pm after which police reached the spot.
The incident happened in Vinay Marg in Chanakyapuri area of Delhi. The speeding luxury car was being driven by the 19-year-old nephew of business tycoon Ponty Chadha, Asees Singh Chadha, police confirmed.
Police said that the deceased foreigner was identified was as Turkmenistan national Gulshat Alijanova. The other injured are auto-driver Raghubir Singh and Turkmenistan nationals Alma Gul Atayeba (33) and Gulia Yyam (55), police added.
