The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday has been granted custody of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram by a Delhi court till 24th October. His judicial custody in connection with the CBI case of the matter has also been extended till 24th October. The ED will conduct custodial interrogation of Chidambaram in the INX Media case. The probe agency had sought 14-day custodial interrogation of the 74-year old senior Congress leader. The court had on Wednesday issued production warrant against him in the INX Media money laundering case lodged by Enforcement Directorate.
The Delhi court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of former finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media case lodged by CBI. Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar extended Chidambaram's custody in the corruption case filed by the CBI. The hearing in the INX Media money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate was underway on Thursday. ED had sought 14-day custodial interrogation of the 74-year old senior Congress leader.
On Wednesday, an ED team grilled Chidambaram for around two hours in Tihar Jail and later arrested him. The CBI had arrested him on August 21 following which he was sent to judicial custody. The Congress leader is facing probe by the CBI and the ED for alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media in getting overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when he was the Union Finance Minister. Indrani Mukerjea who is accused in the INX Media case has turned approver in the matter.
P Chidambaram had asked for air conditioning, a separate cell, a western toilet and home-cooked food in case custody is granted to ED. Along with this, Chidambaram had also asked to be lodged at the CBI headquarters for his security. The ED has objected to his demands.
