Sources tell Republic TV that the terrorists who attacked a bus carrying Amarnath Yatris on Monday also wanted to create a hostage situation. Initial investigations and the modus operandi followed by one of the terrorists, Ismail, indicate that they were looking to enter the bus and take few of the pilgrims as hostages.

According to an intercept, they got a 'go' signal on Sunday from PoK.

Ismail infiltrated into the Indian side around 18 months ago. He and his partner Nasir were successful in infiltrating then, but 3 others were killed during the process. It's been indicated that even Nasir was with him during this attack.

Ismail is a Pakistani national and joined Lashkar in 2010.

Search and kill operations continue

The terror outfit had given him the 'responsibility of restoring support' in South Kashmir area. He has reportedly made 'dozens of ground units' who have also collaborated with the Hizbul Mujahideen cadre.

Another startling disclosure is that Ismail and his group attempted to attack the Amarnath Yatra in 2016 but failed. Since then, he has been on the radar.

Following the Sunday intercepts, his movements along the Yatra route were also being tracked but the bursting of the tyre resulted in an unforeseen change of events which gave the terrorists a window.

Search and kill operations continue in a 50-km radius of the site of the attack. It is a joint operation of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and the MOD. Latest technologies from drones to heat sensors, along with 250 security personnel have been to place to track the terrorists.

EXCLUSIVE | '3 Terror Groups Detected Along Amarnath Yatra Route'

Home Minister Rajnath Singh had called for a high-level meeting on Tuesday, following the dastardly terror attack on Amarnath Yatris on Monday.

In the course of the meeting, it was decided that the standby forces would also be moved into having more security personnel per yatri. Earlier, it was one security personnel for every five yatris. Now, it has been decided to make one personnel for every four yatris.

The decision to continue the yatra has been made and there will be no changes with respect to this.

The Ministry of Home Affairs team will be looking at the step-by-step movement of the yatra to monitor the 'blind spots'. Anyone who moves even slightly away from the plan will NOT be allowed to continue with the yatra, it has been decided.
