High Court at Hyderabad to be bifurcated into High Court of Andhra Pradesh and High Court of Telangana from January 1, 2019. Read notification here.

The government of India has released a gazette notification for the bifurcation of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad into the  High Court of Telangana and the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. The two High Courts will start functioning separately on the 1st day of January 2019.

The High Court of Telangana will function from the location of existing High Court of Judicature of Hyderabad. The High Court of Andhra Pradesh will be functioning in the new building at Amravati at the earliest, the order said.

The order said that the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad will be common High Court for State of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh till separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh is constituted.

The new High Court for Andhra Pradesh will be the 25th High Court in the country and will initially function from the temporary structure till the permanent building comes up in the ambitious Justice City complex in the state's capital Amaravati.

With the enactment of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated into two states, viz., State of Andhra Pradesh and State of Telangana. The Act, which had come into effect from June 2, 2014 has also a provision for separate High Courts for State of Telangana and State of Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad, which was the capital of erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh is now part of Telangana and has become its capital.

So far the State of Andhra Pradesh is concerned it has decided to create and construct new city known as Amaravati which is going to be the capital of the State and the new High Court of Andhra Pradesh would be located in that city.
