A day after the horrific murder of Hindu Samaj Party chief Kamlesh Tiwari, Gujarat Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) DIG Himanshu Shukla on Saturday has revealed that all three suspects who were detained have confessed to the crime, as per sources. Sources report that Gujarat police has spoken to the conspirators' brother who had allegedly asked Tiwari for an opportunity to work with him, before allegedly committing the crime. Police are still on the lookout for the other two suspects who were allegedly involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Director-General of Police (DGP) OP Singh, on Saturday has revealed that prima facie the murder has been a radical killing as the suspected killers were allegedly radicalised by the speech that Kamlesh Tiwari gave in 2015, in a press conference held in Lucknow. The authorities have denied any terror links as of now. Singh has stated that there was no lax of security in Tiwari's security.
"We suspected from the beginning that this murder was linked to Gujarat somehow. After inspecting the crime scene, we found a sweetbox and found clues in the case. We immediately contacted our Gujarat counterparts and inspected the CCTV footages in the area, finding how the suspects committed the murder donning a saffron garb disguising themselves," he said.
He added, "A joint team of UP and Gujarat Police has detained 3 persons and are interrogating them. The suspects are Maulana Mohsin Sheikh, Faizan, and Khurshid Ahmed Pathan. Two other accused were also detained but released later and are currently being monitored." Apart from these suspects, he named Maulana Anwarul Haq and Mufti Naeem Qazmi as conspirators named in the FIR filed by the police. The police are currently monitoring Gujarat, Bijnor, Lucknow through the investigation.
Earlier on Friday, the former chief of Hindu Mahasabha Kamlesh Tiwari was shot dead in Lucknow. Kamlesh Tiwari, the leader of Hindu Mahasabha, was attacked by unidentified assailants on Friday afternoon, barging into Tiwari’s office. Soon after the attack, he was admitted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. While the assailants managed to flee the spot, a revolver was also recovered from the site of the crime. Police stated that the accused spent around 30 minutes with him on the pretext of gifting him, sweets. The police registered an FIR on a complaint filed by Tiwari’s wife where she accused two persons of having threatened to kill her husband in 2016.
