Amid increasing crime rate and debates on the "police raj" in Uttar Pradesh, a pilot project has been initiated where all the Dial-100 Police Response Vehicles will play the tune of "Jagte Raho".
As a pilot project, all Dial-100 Police Response Vehicles' (PRV) sirens will play tunes of "Jagte Raho" (stay awake) in Lucknow, Abhay Mishra, Circle Officer, Hazratganj said on Tuesday.
"The tune will be played in PRVs all night to alert the public, like watchmen used to do. It has started in Hazratganj as a pilot project. Its success will be monitored and will be applied elsewhere in future," Mishra said.
Police are trying this unique measure to curb the menace of criminals in the area. The sirens will be used to alert the people in the area and if found to be successful, the recorded messages can be applied to other areas such as traffic management as well.
The pilot project is one of the innovative initiatives taken by the UP police to curb crimes. Earlier, in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district, a video emerged showing police personnel pointing their guns at commuters and forcing them to hold up their hands while checking their vehicles.
The video shows one of the police officials, surrounded by constables pointing their weapons at commuters, shouting warnings to them.
"Raise your hands. Open your legs. If you lower your hands, you'll be shot. Then don't say you were shot. Who will put on your helmet? You will be shot," the police official is heard saying in the video
Police officials said the measure of pointing their guns at commuters was taken to keep a check on crime in the area.
