A government employee, posted with the National Health Mission, was caught while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a contractor in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal city, an official said on Tuesday.

Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta's Special Police Establishment (SPE) caught executive engineer Rishabh Kumar Jain (58) red-handed while accepting the bribe amount at Habibganj railway station in the morning, the Jabalpur unit's SPE Superintendent of Police (SP) Anil Vishwakarma said.

A Jabalpur-based contractor had lodged a complaint alleging that Jain was asking for Rs 3 lakh from him to release the payment for civil and electrical work he had carried out, he said.

According to the SPE, the accused engineer had demanded a bribe to release Rs 44 lakh for the work the complainant had carried out at Seoni district hospital.

The SPE team laid a trap and caught Jain while accepting Rs 2 lakh cash and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant, the official said.

The SPE's Jabalpur unit is also conducting a search at the accused engineer's home in Bhopal's Chuna Bhatti area, it was stated.
