Advocate Sandeep Patil spoke to Republic Media network on SC's judgement on 17 Rebel MLAs from Karnataka Assembly. The Advocate said the judgement is a relief for the petitioners.
"It's a relief for petitioners, the disqualification being upheld is obviously a setback, but if the entire order of the speaker were to be upheld, then they would have been prohibited to contest elections till 2023. So to that extent relief has been granted," he said.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the disqualification of 17 Congress-JD(S) MLAs in Karnataka on orders of the Speaker. However, the MLAs have been allowed to contest the December 5 bypolls.
