  • A phone conversation between the Unnao rape victim's uncle and the UP Police has exposed the latter's coverup
  • In the phone call, Mahesh Singh explains how his brother was assaulted (and later died) and how the rape-accused MLA's name was removed from his complaint
  • In return, the UP police gives him empty promises, tells him of their 'problems' and asks him to keep fighting

In a damning development in the Unnao rape case and the subsequent death of the victim's father after his being assaulted, Republic TV has accessed a phone conversation between the victim's uncle Mahesh Singh and the UP police which exposes a massive coverup by the latter.

In the phone conversation, the victim's uncle Mahesh Singh alleges that the information provided by him was changed and upon making this point repeatedly, he gets told that the Police also has some 'problems'.

Despite Mahesh Singh explaining clearly how his brother was assaulted and how the rape-accused MLA's brother's name was removed from the complaint, the Police only tells him to keep fighting, leaving him little option but to acquiesce.

Earlier on Tuesday, a day after the victim's father had passed away after being assaulted, the post-mortem report had revealed that he had sustained 14 injuries across his body, particularly around his back and abdomen. Republic TV has also accessed a video that showed that the victim's father wasn't given medical help despite being at a hospital and instead had his fingerprints recorded before being taken into police custody.

Atul Singh Sengar, brother of rape-accused MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, was arrested on Tuesday, allegedly for the vicious assault on the victim's father. The assault, which appears to have taken place on Sunday came after the victim threatened to self-immolate outside Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's residence after no action was being taken on her rape complaint.

The victim had alleged that she had been raped by the BJP MLA and his accomplices. Kuldeep Singh Sengar, however, dismissed the entire incident and even insulted the victim and her family, saying they were 'low class'.
