Detailing Union Home Minister Amit Shah's security review meeting on the arrangements done prior to Amarnath Yatra season, held in Srinagar on Wednesday as part of his first visit to Jammu & Kashmir after taking charge, the government has shared a press release highlighting the critical points of the meeting. Amarnath Yatra season begins on July 1.

Directing all security agencies to take all preventive steps to ensure violence-free Yatra, Shah said that senior officers should personally supervise the arrangements and ensure all SOPs are followed. He added that Forces should latest technologies to protect and facilitate the journey by conducting anti-sabotage, anti-subversion drills, and access control procedures.

The Home Minister underlined the importance of the standard operating procedure for convoy movement by focusing on timely dispatch of convoys, erection of barricades at suitable locations, after cut-off timings while maintaining no differentiation between Yatris and Tourists. He also added that barricades be used at all lateral entry points which should be manned always.

Talking about attending to medical emergencies, Shah said that specialized units and trained personnel should be in place to deal with any type of calamity or contingency, aided with prescribed drills for the purpose.

While laying emphasis on the essential facilities for those deputed on the arrangements of the Yatra, he directed that all duty personnel should maintain proper conduct throughout with no complacency on their part.

Advised all security forces to continue taking strict action against miscreants, the Home Minister also reiterated the need to cover all sensitive and vulnerable places including possible points of infiltration all throughout the State, in order to obviate any type of risk to the Yatra.

Signifying the importance given to Jammu and Kashmir by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had chosen the state for his maiden visit after assuming office and reviewed the security situation.

Breaking away from protocol, Governor Satya Pal Malik, accompanied by his advisors and some top officials of the state administration, received Shah at the airport. Malik, his advisor in charge Home Affairs K Vijay Kumar, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, state Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, DGP Dilbagh Singh and divisional commissioners from the Valley and Jammu were present in the meeting, according to PTI. 

The Home Minister is slated to visit the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas and is scheduled to meet the families of policemen killed in militant attacks in the state.
