Reacting to Republic TV's newsbreak, tracking down dreaded gangster Ravi Pujari on Monday in Senegal, former Karnataka Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai has said that Pujari threatened him long ago calling him from outside India for publicity purposes.
"The threatening call happened long ago not now. He threatened after my tenure as a minister. He called from outside India for publicity purposes," he said.
When Republic TV asked Rai what were the demands made by Pujari, Rai laughed, refusing to comment on those details.
As per news reports in 2015, Pujari had threatened former Karnataka Minister of State for Fisheries and Youth and Sports K Abhaya Chandra Jain and Rai in October that year alleging that they were involved with the killers of Prashant Poojary -a 29-year-old flower seller and Bajrang Dal member who was stabbed by six assailants in Moodabidri, Karnataka. Pujari had alleged that Jain and Rai were trying to protect the killers.
News reports from 2015 also allege that Rai had not filed any complaint against Pujari for threatening him citing his cabinet ministerial berth and not wishing to create a political crisis then.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, after almost five months since India's most wanted gangster and don Ravi Pujari was arrested by the Senegal Police in West Africa, Republic TV has accessed exclusive pictures of the fugitive criminal.
