Continuing his relentless attack on Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Anil Ambani over the Rafale deal, Congress President Rahul Gandhi repeated his ‘PM Modi chor’ comment in his own backyard, Amethi, though, it was met with huge disapproval as people came out on streets and protested against his comments.
Amethi, the backyard of the Congress President - he has won from the constituency on the past three occasions - was miffed with Rahul after he spoke of ‘fun in the coming days’ while launching one after another attack on the present government.
WHAT RAHUL GANDHI SAID?
The Congress supremo on Monday repeated the ‘PM Modi chor’ comment while saying, “The man (Prime Minister Modi), who came to remove corruption, has himself given Rs 30,000 crore to Anil Ambani. The fun has just begun, things are set to turn more interesting. In the next 2-3 months you will have fun after we will show you Narendra Modi's work - Rafale, Vijay Mallya, Lalit Modi, Demonetisation, Gabbar Singh Tax. All of it is theft. One by one, we will show that Narendra Modi ji is not a watchman, but a thief.”
AMETHI PROTESTS
Rahul Gandhi may well feel his continuous attack on BJP and PM Modi would work in his favor, but the people of Amethi certainly did not think so. A day after his statements, huge protests erupted in the constituency, so much so that police was forced to lathi charge the protestors.
In visuals accessed by Republic TV, huge crowd gathered and shouted slogans against the Congress President for his irresponsible statements on the Prime Minister.
BJP GIVES IT BACK
The BJP did not hold back, and lashed out at the Congress supremo. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “It's matter of shame for Congress that a person like Rahul Gandhi, who is irresponsible and is a liar, is their president. We can't expect anything else from a leader whose entire family is buried in scams,be it Bofors or National Herald.”
Textiles minister Smriti Irani went a step further, and called Rahul a ‘50-year-old child’. “The fact that he goes to his constituency and tells his workers ke 'ab mazza aayega' is indicative that a 50-year-old-child is now the Congress President.”
Irani also mentioned that the protests in Amethi indicated how the Congress President has lost all his support in his own constituency. She added, “The protest in Amethi is significant as it indicates that the people of Amethi don't support Rahul Gandhi's malicious campaign against the Prime Minister. The fact that they are protesting against their MP is significant as it shows that the Congress president does not have support in his own home base.”
