After election prediction goes awry, Dr Subramanian Swamy acknowledges 'Congress won battle, BJP will win war'

BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy has given his view on the recent assembly election results that saw his party being defeated in three crucial Hindi Heartland states and the Congress coming up trumps. Dr Swamy had earlier predicted that the BJP would win all three of those states.

In his latest analysis, Dr Swamy has acknowledged that the Congress has won this particular battle, but adds that the Rahul Gandhi-led party would lose the war as a consequence. The reason for this, he says, is that the BJP will not remain complacent and will be even more determined to win the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Earlier, about two weeks before the election results, Dr Swamy had predicted that the BJP would win in each of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, improve its tally in Telangana by a significant figure, and form a government in Mizoram. 

However, the parliamentarian's prediction ended up being inaccurate.

In the Rajasthan elections, the Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government was dislodged as the Congress won 99 seats out of 199 and formed a government, the biggest fuss being about whether Ashok Gehlot or Sachin Pilot will be Chief Minister. Gehlot won that particular contest, with Pilot made his Deputy.

Similarly, in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress managed to win 114 out of 230 seats, with Kamal Nath becoming Chief Minister, and in Chhattisgarh, Congress' Bhupesh Baghel was appointed as Chief Minister after the Congress secured 68 seats out of 90. In Telangana, the BJP won just one seat.
