After Kamal Nath signs off farm loan waiver in MP, Rahul Gandhi says, '1 done, 2 to go'

On Monday afternoon, hours after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath fulfilled one of his party's biggest pre-poll promise by signing on files to waive off farmer loans. 

Soon after the decision was taken, Congress president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and posted a message, "CM, Madhya Pradesh, waives farm loans. 1 done. 2 to go," suggesting that after MP, his party will do the same in the other two states where they came to power - Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

The Congress, in the recently concluded elections, managed to form government in three of the states where it competed. They came to power in Madhya Pradesh after a 15-year BJP regime, winning 114 seats and going past the majority mark of 116 with the help of BSP, SP and Independents.

Kamal Nath took oath on Monday afternoon in front of a number of political leaders. Those present at the swearing-in ceremony included Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC general secretary Mallikarjun Kharge, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his deputy Sachin Pilot, MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.

In the state of Rajasthan, Congress emerged as the single largest party with 99 seats, but formed the government with the help of Independents. Ashok Gehlot, for the third time in his political career, was chosen as the state's CM.

As for Chhattisgarh, the party emerged with a landslide victory, winning 68 of the 90 seats in the state. Bhupesh Baghel was appointed as the CM of the state by the party on Sunday after days of consideration.
