In a shocking development, the Congress party has distanced itself with BSP chief Mayawati’s blistering criticism of senior Congress party MP Digvijaya Singh. Asserting that the party respects that decision of the former UP Chief Minister, Congress has expressed hope in building cordial relationships with the party once again before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Moments after the scathing attack at the Congress party, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday called the senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh a ‘BJP agent’. During the news briefing, as Mayawati asserted to rule out all the alliance with the Rahul Gandhi’s Congress party, she also revealed that some of the Congressmen are afraid of the alliance between the Congress and BSP.

“It is sad that Digvijaya Singh and some Congress leaders are afraid of the Central Bureau of Investigation and do not want alliance between Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party. Digvijay Singh is a BJP and RSS agent. He is giving statements that BSP chief is under pressure and hence is not aligning with the Congress ,” she alleged in the press conference.

Responding to the BSP chief Mayawati’s statement calling him ‘a BJP agent’, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh also on Wednesday said that he has immense respect for Mayawati and as PM Modi and BJP President Amit Shah controls the CBI and ED, they are using it against the opposition.

Digvijaya Singh also said that he foresaw the possibility of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar doing yet another volte-face by walking out of the BJP-led NDA ahead of the next Lok Sabha election, while he was in Patna.

However, the Congress party Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala held a news briefing after Mayawati's comments, and expressed his confidence in the alliance of the two parties for the upcoming 2019 general elections.

“Congress and BSP have a natural alliance. Mahagathbandhan is for the nation. I was never against it. Mayawati has expressed her opinion and we respect it. She has also expressed confidence in Rahul ji and Sonia ji. If there is consensus between Mayawati, our President Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, then no other person can create trouble,” said the Congress party Spokesperson.
