After ridiculing common man over fuel prices, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale issues a meek explanation

A day after he mocked the citizens of the country over the ever-increasing fuel prices, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has issued a meek explanation for his statements. The Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment in the present BJP-led NDA government had ridiculed the pain faced by common man over the rising prices of petrol and diesel in the country, which have touched an all-time high.

Now, realizing the blunder he committed with his comments, Athawale has accepted making a mistake. Claiming 'being a common man before becoming a minister', he said, "If sentiments are hurt, I apologise. I was a common man before becoming a minister."

Not happy with the kind of words used by Athawale, former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah lashed out at the Union Minister on Twitter. His message read, "I am a minister, I get fuel for free”. Actually Minister Sahib your fuel@is not free, it’s being paid for by the taxes of hard working people. Not only are they paying for your “free fuel”, they have to pay for their own as well. But then you don’t pay taxes either!!"

On Saturday, the the RPI(A) leader had stated that being a minister, he doesn't care about the increase in fuel prices. "The prices of petrol and diesel should decrease. The government is taking close look as to why the prices have increased. Dharemendra Pratap, who is the petroleum minister, has been given the responsibility. 

"I am not concerned. Because I am a minister, I get fuel for free. If I lose my position, then I will be concerned. The increase of prices has concerned the public, we understand, and the government is trying to decrease the prices," he added.

Not stopping there, Athawale went onto call for reservation in all the sectors, including Indian army and cricket. "If there is reservation in cricket and other sports, the boys from our community will play better, get training and do practice. There should be reservation in army and all the other sectors. Rajya Sabha should also have reservation given Lok Sabha already has it," the Union minister said before suggesting that reservation in army will bring forward a number of people to join the organization.
