The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK) through its official mouthpiece slammed actor Rajnikanth after the latter stated that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami became a CM with "luck." The mouthpiece states that "EPS is not a reel leader who wanted to become a CM in between the shooting schedule of two movies, but he is a real leader." Further slamming the TN superstar, the AIADMK's mouthpiece stated that "Rajinikanth was also a conductor once upon a time, but he would've never even thought in his dreams that he will become a superstar in Tamil Nadu."

Rajnikanth's 'Lucky CM' remarks

Speaking at Kamal Haasan's 60th year in Indian Cinema's function on Sunday, the Tamil Nadu superstar stated that "EPS became a Chief Minister because of his sheer luck and he would have not even dreamt about it two years ago." Further, he added that "EPS becoming a CM is a miracle." Rajinikanth also stated that CM Palaniswami had contradicted all claims of his government being a short-lived one. Recalling the initial days of the Palaniswami-led dispensation, Rajinikanth said everybody had predicted it will be a short-lived one. Among others, DMK chief MK Stalin had initially predicted that the government could fall any time. Rajnikanth's comments come after Palaniswami recently hit out at the actor for his comment that "there was a leadership vacuum in Tamil Nadu." To this, the Tamil Nadu CM had said that "Rajnikanth is just an actor and not a political leader."

Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan's earlier comments on TN govt

Earlier, actor Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth had criticized the leadership crisis and the government's performance in the state of Tamil Nadu. Reacting to that, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, K Palaniswami stated, "Everyone has got their rights to start a political party, but criticising others is not acceptable. He does not know what politics it at all. We are in politics since 1974, climbed step by step and reached this place." The CM had also said that "Rajnikanth should first enter the field before commenting on the political scene."

Rajnikanth's fans react

Reacting to Palaniswami's statements, Rajniaknth's fans issued a statement in this regard. According to reports, the Sivaji Fans' Association said, "Edappadi K Palaniswami said actor-turned-politician will meet the fate of Sivaji Ganesan, whose political foray was not much of a success, is condemnable. When the Congress and the AIADMK were in an alliance, Sivaji Ganesan had campaigned for the AIADMK and made the party win. It would be great if someone conveys the same to the Chief Minister." They further added that "A person who literally fell on someone’s feet to become the Chief Minister has no moral ground to talk ill about Sivaji Ganesan who had so much self-respect."

About EPS

Edappadi K. Palaniswami was elected as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2017 in the wake of internal rumblings in the AIADMK following the death of then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in December 2016. Initially, incumbent deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam helmed the government after Jayalalithaa's death. However, he fell out of favour with jailed party leader V K Sasikala and rebelled against her, after she was made AIADMK legislature party leader, paving the way for her elevation as CM. Sasikala was Jayalalithaa's confidante. However, she was later convicted in a graft case and prior to her being jailed, Palaniswami was elected AIADMK legislature party leader.
