AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi lashes out at MoS MJ Akbar, demands PM Modi to 'sack him'

Hours after the Congress party demanded the government to conduct an inquiry on the allegations leveled against MJ Akbar, AIMIM has followed suite, with its party chief Asaduddin Owaisi demanding PM Narendra Modi to 'sack him' from his post.

On his official Twitter handle, Owaisi lashed out at the former journalist while making reference to his speeches in the parliament on Muslim women empowerment. His message read, 

"Horrible this bloody perpetrator @mjakbar shame on you and you stood in parliament during T Talaaq Bill & spoke about Muslim women empowerment & to stop their exploitation, @PMOIndia sack this Minister of yours if you truly believe in Beti Bachao"

Prior to his message, Congress had asked the MoS to either 'respond or resign'. "Union Minister M J Akbar should either give a satisfactory answer to the allegations or he should resign. We demand an inquiry into the matter," Jaipal Reddy of Congress said.

As many as six women have leveled allegations against MJ Akbar of harassment during his time as a journalist. It prompted questions being asked of the government on this matter, but senior leaders in the centre refused to comment on the allegations.

First it was the EAM Sushma Swaraj, who chose to walk away when questioned on MJ Akbar. It was then followed by a similar quiet stance by Maneka Gandhi. When the Minister of Women & Child Development was asked to comment on this matter, all she said was "I have got no comment on this."

MJ Akbar is accused by as many as six women of harassment when he used to work as a journalist. It all began with a journalist named Priya Ramani, who had initially in 2017 not named the minister while narrating her horror. But this time around, she named MJ Akbar.

It was then followed by many other journalists narrating their stories involving MJ Akbar. Most of the women  detailed incidents wherein the former journalist would call them to his plush hotel room for interviews, offer alcohol and ask/say unwarranted questions and behave inappropriately.
