Amit Shah To Remain BJP President Till December, Will Lead Party Through Assembly Polls In Maharashtra, Jharkhand & Haryana: Sources

Minutes after BJP President and newly-appointed Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting of the party's national office bearers and state presidents in New Delhi on Thursday, sources have told that the MP from Gujarat's Gandhinagar constituency is likely to remain the party chief till the month of December. 

Amit Shah took over as the BJP president soon after NDA victory in the 2014 general elections. Following BJP's historic victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Amit Shah who won from Gandhinagar parliamentary seat in his poll debut, was given the charge of Ministry of Home Affairs on May 31. In the aftermath of his appointment as the new Home Minister, speculations grew over the appointment of a new BJP chief. 

However, sources have told that Amit Shah will continue as BJP chief till December 2019 to oversee the assembly elections of states like Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra, which are due this year. 

On Thursday morning, BJP President Amit Shah called a meeting of the party's national office-bearers along with party's heavy hitters including state presidents, organisation mantris and state in-charges.

This development has come a day after BJP constituted its Parliamentary Party Executive Committee, with appointment of PM Narendra Modi as the leader of the party, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as Deputy leader of the party (Lok Sabha), Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot as leader of party (Rajya Sabha) and Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal as Deputy leader of party (Rajya Sabha).

The list further said that Amit Shah will remain the National President of the BJP Parliamentary Party.
