Article 370 scrapped: Home Minister Amit Shah says 'a historic wrong corrected'; congratulates PM Modi, nation

Home Minister Amit Shah lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'unwavering commitment' towards the unity and integrity of India while congratulating him as Article 370 was scrapped in the Parliament on Monday. The Union Minister said that government had corrected a ‘long overdue historic wrong’ in a decision that they believe will 'usher in a new dawn of peace and development' in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh region.

Moments after  presenting his proposal in both the Houses of the Parliament, Minister Shah tweeted, “Today, Modi govt has corrected a long overdue historic wrong. I congratulate PM @narendramodi ji for his unwavering commitment towards ensuring unity & integrity of our motherland. This historic decision will usher in a new dawn of peace & development in J&K and Ladakh region.” (sic)

The leader also asserted that with the revocation of Article 370, there no longer existed a dual constitution in this country, stressing that Kashmir has always been an integral part of the country.

Amit Shah also dedicated the successful revocation of Article 370 to the patriots who made ‘supreme sacrifice’ for a ‘United India.’ 

"Kashmir has always been an integral part of India but this decision will ensure that there will no more be दो निशान-दो सविंधान in J&K. This decision is a tribute to all the patriots who made the supreme sacrifice for a united India. Congratulations to the entire nation," he tweeted.

Article 370 scrapped

Home Minister Amit Shah presented the proposal to repeal Article 370, that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, in Rajya Sabha on Monday morning. Towards the late afternoon, he made another speech.

With 125 votes in favour of Article 370 revocation and 61 against it, the bill was successfully passed by the Rajya Sabha. 

Jammu and Kashmir also ceases to be a state and has been declared as a Union Territory, after being bifurcated; Ladakh also becomes a Union Territory.
