'Arun Jaitley Had Incomparable Intellect': Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis spoke about the sad demise of veteran BJP leader Arun Jaitley. Speaking to the media, he said that Jaitley's death was a huge loss for him, BJP, and also the nation. He also spoke about the former Finance Minister's role in bringing the down the UPA II government as the leader of Opposition by exposing the corruption in the system. Devendra Fadnavis praised Arun Jaitley's intellect and said that he was uncompromising in his values.

"One nation one tax, the system the country received due to which the country developed (is his contribution). As the leader of the Oppositon, his work can never be forgotten by the country as during 2009-2014, the corrupt deeds of the then government was exposed by him. The BJP regained its political space owing to that. He was sincere and uncompromising in values, his intellect was incomparable. This is a huge loss for me, the BJP and the country," the Maharashtra CM said.

Arun Jaitley's career as a political leader

Arun Jaitley started his career in politics since his youth. His political career spanned multiple decades and tenures. In the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government, Jaitley held the portfolios of Information and Broadcasting while simultaneously holding Independent Charge of the Department of Disinvestment and going on to hold the Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs and then the Ministry of Shipping. In the Narendra Modi-led government, Jaitley came to be a centre-piece and was the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, of Corporate Affairs and held the all-important Ministries of Finance and Defence. He was also the leader of the house in the Rajya Sabha since the Modi government came into office and had been a member of the upper house from Gujarat since 2000.
