Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi on Saturday revoked the suspension of senior party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress. Aiyar was suspended in December last year for his 'neech comment' while referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the campaigning for Gujarat polls.
In the press statement, the INC stated that the Congress president has approved the recommendation of the Central Disciplinary Committee of AICC for revoking Mani Shankar's primary membership.
In an apparent reference to the decision of revoking the membership of Mani Shankar Aiyar, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra mounted a scathing attack on Congress Supremo Rahul Gandhi.
"We have been questioning this to the Congress and particularly Rahul Gandhi. If you remember, during the Gujarat election, it was Mani Shankar Aiyar's appalling 'neech Comment'. We had raised this question that you cannot denigrate the Prime Minister who belongs to a particular community and in reply to that the Congress Party had suspended Mani Shankar Aiyar. Back then, we had said that this is just an eyewash and a hogwash. They are going to take Mani Shankar Aiyar back and this is just a drama before Gujarat election. They did not want to alienate Gujarat. Today when they take back Mani Shankar it only proves that the Congress Party likes to hit back at the Prime Minister whenever they get a chance", he said.
"You have to understand that what the Congress Party did was to temperorily shut down a permanent feature. Mani Shankar is the permanent feature of Congress Party and he is very close to Gandhi family. The core agenda of the Congress Party is not to talk development but to abuse. You would have seen that Rahul Gandhi himself is quite abusive to the Prime Minister. Such kind of parallel that the Congress party tries to draw is appalling. Just before 2014 election, the same Mani Shankar Aiyer had said that I promise that Mr Modi would be the Prime Minister in the 21st Century and if at all he wants to do something then we can give him space outside of the Congress convention where he can come an sell tea. All that Congress Party resonate is arrogance", he added.
"Mani Shakar Aiyar had gone to Pakistan in 2015 and had given an interview to a Pakistani news channel, he said that the only way to get peace was by removing PM Modi. This is what he was pleading to Pakistan", he concluded.
