Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday attacked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over his good governance plank and dubbed him as “Ashwasan babu” - one who gives assurances and “Sushasan babu” - one who gives good governance. The Congress President slammed the Bihar CM saying “Beti Bachao” is just a poll jargon for him. Rahul Gandhi’s remark came in the backdrop of Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case.

“‘Ashwasan babu’ aur ‘Sushasan babu’ ki kahani… Humne suna hai, jisko chuna hai...usne ‘beti bachao’ ka sirf nara hi diya hai (The story of “assurance babu” and “good governance babu”... We have heard that “beti bachao” is just a poll jargon for the one we voted for),” wrote Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi quoted a news report which claimed that the reports of 34 out of 42 girls being raped in the shelter home have been confirmed.

Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Nitish Kumar came a day after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took part in the cycle rally and protested against the governance of Nitish Kumar.

“I want to ask Nitish Kumar why the main accused Brijesh Thakur has not been arrested yet? I ask CM to make his call details public, Brijesh Thakur is using his political connections to press down on this case, we demand CBI probe,” said Tejashwi Yadav on Muzaffarpur shelter home case.

“Several drugs and things related to abortion were being used at the shelter home. Still, the main suspect Brijesh Thakur is being protected by government. When will he be arrested? Till when minor girls will be raped in the state?" said the leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly.

Earlier in the day, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the Bihar shelter home rape case. The investigating agency also registered a case against the officers and employees of the shelter home. The case has been registered on the request of the Bihar government and after the notification of the Central government.

As per police claim, 34 of 42 rescued girls from state-funded Bihar shelter home were either raped or molested. The police have arrested 11 employees of the shelter home in connection with the case.

The sexual exploitation of the girls was uncovered over a month ago by a Mumbai-based social science institute.
