In a major development amid the controversy, Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan on Monday was forced to apologise for his filthy and sexist remarks on Lok Sabha chair Rama Devi that he made on July 25 in the Parliament. This development has come in the aftermath of the massive backlash within and outside the Parliament against Azam Khan for his sexist ‘aankho mein aankh’ remarks on the chair.

"The entire House know my speech and behaviour, inspite of that if the Chair thinks that I have made a mistake in emotion, I apologise for it," the SP MP said.

Sitting beside him, SP chief and Azamgarh MP Akhilesh Yadav came out in defence of his party leader and said that Khan said whatever he had to say.

Even as the Rampur MP apologised for his remarks, the Lok Sabha erupted into chaos for an extensive apology from Azam Khan to Rama Devi and the women across the country.

"I earlier also said that she is like my sister. You say the same thing 1000 times, it will remain the same, I apologise for whatever I said," said Khan on being demanded by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla to apologise in the House.

Responding to his apology, BJP MP Rama Devi lashed out at the SP leader, saying that he is habitual with his similar remarks and has hurt every with his remarks.

"Every woman has been hurt by his remarks. He is habitual with his words. I have not come here to listen to words like what Azam Khan said," Rama Devi added.

Azam Khan's Sexist Remarks at LS Chair

On Thursday, the Lok Sabha witnessed uproar amid the Triple Talaq Bill debate when SP MP Azam Khan made sexist remarks at Lok Sabha chair Rama Devi. While Azam Khan made the filthy remarks at Rama Devi, SP chief president Akhilesh Yadav grinned and asked him to continue to speak amid chaos in the Lok Sabha. Later, defending his party leader, Akhilesh Yadav said that there was nothing disgraceful or intentional on what Azam Khan said.

"I really like you so much that I feel like keep looking into your eyes. I feel like never taking my eyes off you," Azam Khan said talking to the Lok Sabha chair. (Aap mujhe itni achi lagti hai ki aapke aankho main aankhe dale rahu ye mera man karta hai. Main kabhi na nazar haatau aapse. Aap kitni acchi jagah baithi hai.)

Massive backlash against Azam Khan

From Sushma Swaraj to Mayawati a number of women political leaders condemned Azam Khan's remarks on Rama Devi and demanded apology from the SP leader. Amid uproar in Lok Sabha on Friday, Smriti Irani and Nirmala Sitharaman took down Azam Khan and called for action against him. BSP supremo Mayawati said that he has hurt the dignity of a woman by using such derogatory comments. She further called for an apology from Azam Khan not only to the Rama Devi and Lok Sabha, but to all the women.
