Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has made a shocking anti-India comment while reacting to the recent lynching case in Bihar's Saran. When questioned about the lynching incident in Bihar's Saran where three men were beaten to death over suspicions of being cattle thieves, Khan gave the incident a shocking communal twist and said that the incident happened because Muslims are paying the price for staying in India after 1947.

"It is not about madrassas, it is about the punishment after 1947. Why did not our ancestors go to Pakistan. Now we will suffer the punishment. 'Why didn't you go to Pakistan?,' you should ask this to Maulana Azad, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi), Muslims had stayed back on their promise. We were not the ones behind the partition but we are paying the price," he said.

Saran SP Harkishore Rai had said that three men were thrashed by the locals on the suspicion of cattle theft. Three people have been booked in the matter.

He made a similar argument when questioned about being listed as land mafia by district authorities in Uttar Pradesh.  At least 13 cases have been filed against Khan by the Uttar Pradesh district authorities from the year 2006-2016.

"...This is not about madrassas, this about paying the price after 1947. Because I am who I am and I have won the elections against huge personalities. They tried their best to win the election..." he had said while speaking about cases of land grabbing against him.

'Land mafia' tag against the SP leader

On July 18, the district authorities listed Samajwadi leader as a 'land mafia'  in the anti-land mafia portal that was introduced by the Yogi Adityanath government for allegedly forcibly taking land from farmers to construct the Mohammed Ali Jauhar University, as per sources. During this week, the authorities have reportedly registered around 13 cases against him in connection with land grabbing between the years 2006-2016.
